Last night I was in shock and awe at the overwhelming victories that a licentious libertarian come lately to the GOP, many moderate to liberal Republicans and most all Democrats achieved in the day’s elections across NC. Monday was my birthday and so I could not get out to any precincts until 3:30 AM on Tuesday, election day.

What I saw spoke volumes about the lack of organization among some Republican and conservatives’ campaigns, the zealous activity of the Libertarians who have invaded our party to get elected–since they failed to get their own party recognized by the state of NC–and the overwhelming hyper-activity of the partisan NCAE teachers’ union on behalf of their bedfellows in the Democrat Party. I hit the first polls at 3:30 AM and by the time they opened at 6:30 I had worked my way through some 20 precincts in Fuquay Varina, Holly Springs, Apex, Raleigh and Cary. I was placing signs for Augustus Cho for Congress, Fred Smith for Governor and John M. Tyson for NC Court of Appeals judge. As the polls opened I made my way through Morrisville to Briar Creek, Bethesda and Durham, even going so far as Wake Forest in the north.

What I observed was that the libertarians’ candidate had effectively placed his signs in about 80% of the precincts in Southern Wake County, and about two-thirds of the ones in Cary, Apex and Morrisville; but that they missed over half of the precincts in Durham County, especially those in mostly black or African American precincts.

By the time of 6:30, when the polls opened, I was in Western Wake County on my way to Briar Creek and Durham. I observed that at about three out of four of the precincts in Wake County and in almost every Durham County precinct, with one single exception, that there was one party represented by poll workers…the Democrats. Most of them were the teachers’ union, NCAE, representatives. I met and had small talk regarding politics with about 30 poll workers at over 20 precincts in Wake and Durham Counties, and only one was a Republican, a Huckabee or Keyes supporter as I recall.

The NCAE and another teachers’ union, I have the cards still in my car, gave every voter coming in to vote a card that listed all of their endorsements from President to Governor and from State Superintendent of Public Instruction down to the judges and city councils…without exception, including the page handed out by the Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People (apparently only liberal black people) every single piece if electioneering literature that I received was to endorse voting for Democrats! The Republican party, including libertarians, had absolutely nobody handing out any literature at any of the 25 polling places I visited between 6:30 AM and 6:30 PM yesterday! The Durham poll worker who was supporting either Huckabee or Keyes, was the only Republican handing out any literature at any of the precincts. His was just a candidate comparison and did not even ask people to vote for Keyes or Huckabee!

If the NC Republican Party and conservatives with in the party during primaries, is ever going to become the party and the movement of power, we have got to learn to work the precincts on election days! Last January I worked in the Columbia, SC area for Mike Huckabee in the final days leading up to that state’s presidential primary. While standing at one polling place during the last hour of a long day’s campaigning for Mike Huckabee, I had about 10 or 12 procrastinators come in to vote. Of them, about eight or ten when asked “Have you made up your mind about who to vote for for President” said “No”! When I asked them, while holding a Huckabee sign and some of his literature, “May I share with you why I support Governor Huckabee?” said “Yes.” After talking with them for anywhere from two to ten minutes, about six out of the eight, said something like “Thanks!, I’m glad you were here. I will be voting for Huckabee.” That was after a year of a national campaign!

What did I learn? Voters, even primary voters, will feel compelled, perhaps guilty, to vote; but they are too busy or too lazy or there’s too much smoke and mirrors in the sound bites for them to decide who to trust, for them to decide who to vote for until they arrive at the voting place. I had college educated men and women, white middle class and middle aged blue collar workers, young mothers, at least one businessman and a couple of members of the military tell me words to the effect of “I’m just going to go into the voting booth and toss a coin.”

Now that you know why the Democrats and NCAE turn out their poll workers, perhaps you will be motivated in November 2008 to go hold a John McCain sign…or maybe not! Pick your candidate or candidates and work to get them elected.

Now, as to last night…there were a lot of reasons why the conservatives in the GOP and our judges lost in the partisan and so-called “non-partisan judicial” races. Hillary and Obama gave 1 million new Democrat voters a reason to come to the polls and vote. It was just plain black and white, man versus woman. Oh, here’s what one 24 year old, college educated, Democrat poll worker told me: I asked her “Hillary or Obama?” and She replied “Well I’m ambivalent, but since Hillary’s got a vagxxx, I guess I’ll vote for her.” And, she didn’t even blush when she stated it to a middle-aged, white man after having just met me two minutes prior! Where is the shame and humility, where is the sense of moral decency among our young people?!

Oh, by the way, on the other side of the isle, we had John McCain at the top of the ticket and we all saw how much of the base, let alone new voters he motivated to vote in the Republican primary! It’s our party’s lack of grassroots activists and the top of the ticket to blame for yesterday’s results. But that’s just the informed opinion of one conservative Republican activists who happens to host a radio, TV and internet blog in his spare time. May God have mercy on America and may we all re-examine what we stand for, what we are willing to swallow, how much we will tolerate and what we will take a stand for in our families, lives, churches, schools, conservative movement, party and country.
