Why Libertarians and B.J. Lawson threaten Christian Conservatives in GOP, NC and USA

I too was impressed with the libertarians’ numbers and level of organization at the Wake County GOP Convention last night. God-fearing Christians Conservatives and Social Conservatives had better wake up and rise to the battle or licentiousness and hedonism with government approval will soon prevail in our society, if America survives the foreign threats long enough.
Since the Libertarians failed to get their own party authorized in NC, they have taken to an highly organized and energized effort to take over the Republican Party in NC. I have witnessed this at several GOP and other conservative and Christian events around Wake County.
Their local fair haired favorite son is none other than that eloquent and handsome, but deceptively dangerous, B.J. Lawson. Lawson, a GOP primary Candidate running against the Conservative Christian Republican Candidate Augustus Cho for the Republican nomination to run for US Congress in the 4th Congressional District against Liberal Democrat David Price, claims if he went to DC that the two books he would carry with him are the Cato Institute’s (Libertarians) Constitution and the Bible.
Remember, Jefferson owned a Koran, but despite what liberal Democrat Muslim Rep. Ellis may protest, Jefferson only owned it because he wanted to study his enemy because he was preparing to wage war against the Islamists of the Barbary Cost. That’s why the Marine Corps hymn says “from the halls of Montazoma to the shores of Tripoli” where Thomas Jefferson (the idol of modern Libertarians) deployed the US Marines to defeat Muslim pirates and protect US interests and citizens abroad.
Back on the 1980’s, while serving in the US Navy, I read Mikhail Gorbachev’s Perestroika, but I assure you that I had no intention of becoming a Communist. In the same way, some politicians carry the Bible around like a letter of reference to gain the trust of Evangelicals. Christians beware!
I first met, William Thomas Lawson Jr., aka B.J. Lawson last fall when we were both at the NC State Fair. I was working the NC Right to Life booth and Lawson was ostensibly working out of the NC Republican Party booth, but was in fact working for Ron Paul, the Libertarian congressman from TX who had to join the GOP to get re-elected (after having run a failed campaign for President on the Libertarian Party ticket). While libertarians have some good economic ideas, they are very dangerous socially.
***Publisher’s Update 3/23/2008:
In his 2008 Presidential bid, Ron Paul supports a Constitutional Amendment to prevent the babies of illegal aliens from having US citizenship by birthright. These have been referred to as so-called “anchor babies” because their parents then are “anchored” to a US Citizen, their US born baby, whom has the right to stay in the US as a Citizen by birth. It seems to me a very dangerous proposition to amend the Constitution to allow a government agency to decide that having a US birth certificate is not sufficient, but that you must then prove the citizenship of your parents. Think about all the potential for abuse if two generations (one of which could be dead or have Alzheimers’) have to prove their citizenship before the current generation, holding a valid US birth certificate, can exercise their rights as a US born Citizen! The prospects for abuse by bureaucrats is frightening to this Conservative Publisher and Radio/TV Talk Show Host.
A couple of months later I began to hear rumors that Lawson was running for Congress. Subsequently, Lawson and I exchanged several email threads (which I still have archived) on issues from legalizing prostitution, to de-criminalizing drugs and bringing all US troops deployed around the world home. The later an isolationist goal which is tantamount to surrendering the free world to the Communist Chinese and Russians and the Islamo Fascists Jihadists.

When our founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence and wrote the Constitution, they were motivated by a Judeo-Christian worldview. This is a worldview that has long since passed from the mainstream American culture. Today, we are mostly materialists and post-modern thinkers. We do not respect or appreciate that there are absolute rights and wrongs. Unfortunately, this opens us up to all kinds of deceptions invented by mankind. Wisdom would council us to be more spiritually discerning. (Editor’s note: See separate blog on the Southern Evangelical Seminary’s Third Annual Conference on Spiritual Discernment coming March 28-29th in Charlotte, NC or visit www.SES.edu for details.)
The Constitution was written by Christian men who believed in a Creator and Providence who ruled over the affairs of men. They understood that the “laws of nature and nature’s God” placed moral restraints on each citizen. Their idea of liberty was the Biblical concept that we are free from sin and death. Today’s post-modern, pop-culture believes and tries to tell us that liberty and freedom are to do whatever feels good. This is the lie of the Devil. God has made us free, but that freedom is to choose to do right. Just because the God of creation, the Alpha and Omega, the LORD Almighty, whose name is Jealous, has given us the freedom to theoretically do wrong, does not mean that we have the right to do wrong.
Today’s Libertarians, lead nationally by Congressman Ron Paul of TX, and in the 4th Congressional District by B.J. Lawson, want to remove the moral and social restraints placed upon us by our forefathers and mothers through moral and social laws to protect the innocent and weak from predators, temptation and sin. The purely Libertarian view today is that prostitution, abortion, gambling, pornography, drugs and all other personal behaviors that do not involve violence, should be legalized. Their god is man and personal freedom to do whatever feels good or right, or at least, whatever one chooses for themselves. This is hedonism. It’s what God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah for and it’s the reason He sent the great Flood in Noah’s days. This is moral and social anarchy and would be the death of Western civilization just as sure as Communism or Jihad would bring tyranny that would end our great Republic.
For two decades America has poured billions of dollars onto the Chinese Communist economy. They are using those funds to build a blue water navy that includes aircraft carriers, nuclear submarines and troop transport ships. The country that could put forward a 200 million man land army, can now project that power via the sea lanes. What’s left of the former Soviet Union, is now Russia and they are reaping billions in profits from the high price of oil on the world markets. Russia is using this oil money to rebuild and reactivate it’s bear bombers, nuclear subs and ICBM warheads. One of the largest standing armies on the world is Communist North Korea. Another country with aggressive military intentions, part of the axis of evil. Today in Iraq, Syria and Iran are vying for power and influence in a country that is still up for grabs politically. The Muslimization of Europe is fast becoming a reality. Europe, while no longer a Christian continent, is still home to some of America’s strongest allies. There are many military dangers on the horizon for Western civilization in general and the US in particular.
It is in this season of hostility and while our US Armed Forces, thanks to eight years of Bill Clinton decimating it and a war that has stretched thin a force too small to face war on two fronts, the Libertarians lead by the likes of Ron Paul, and B.J. Lawson in the 4th Congressional District in NC, want to cut and run. They naively think that if we just abandon the rest of the world and bring all of our forward deployed forces home to the motherland, that the Communists, Jihadists and other tyrants around the world will just ignore us. That’s ridiculous and most dangerous to our very existence. If the Libertarians formed a coalition with the Democrats in the US Congress and forced the Commander in Chief to call our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines home, it would be just to wait for the barbarian swarms to conquer the rest of the civilized world before turning their undivided attention to the only people left to conquer in the free world, the Americans. Our religious liberties are under assault by the ACLU, secular humanists, militant atheists and now the libertarians too.
I for one can not stand idly by and watch the future security of our country, my children and yours, fall prey to peaceniks who want drugs, free-love, abortion-on-demand and hedonism to prevail in the decline and fall of Western civilization and America. I am compelled by the Holy Spirit to speak forth truth and confront evil even when it comes smiling in a nice suite and says sweet words that tickle the ears of many otherwise good intentioned people.
Today’s 10th Amendment libertarians tell us that the US Constitution is a precious and sacred document that we could not amend to protect the institution of traditional one-man, one-woman marriage. Many of them would rather opt to protect the sanctity of the Constitution over the sanctity of life of the unborn child. Our founding fathers were so convinced that the Constitution should never be changed that they made 10 changes before they would even approve it! The Bill of Rights is the guarantee of our personal liberties and restrains the power of government and the evil intentions of men. If freedom of speech rises to the Constitutional level of protection then so do marriage and life.
B.J. Lawson told me just last night at the Wake County Republican Convention that he would not support an amendment to protect marriage. I find B.J. likable and sincere, sincerely wrong. While it grieves me to put forth this thesis, I must remember to be true to my own children and their future as Americans and Christians. Christians must defend our liberties and the right to have moral restraints to protect our posterity, not our prosperity. Libertarians act as if the document is more precious than my marriage and yours. The militant homosexuals are deconstructing the institution of marriage and the libertarians are more interested in a charade about a document than protecting our children from being indoctrinated in the government schools that homosexuality is good. Looking to California and RINO Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s signing of a law last Fall that mandates that homosexuality be taught as a legitimate lifestyle in the K-12 government schools of California, as the future agenda of this militant homosexual elite, we can count on our kids then being recruited by the pedophiles who can not reproduce and so they must prey upon our young to propagate their evil sodomite lifestyle.
***Publisher’s Update 3/23/2008: It is essential to all Americans to recognize that the law which CA Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed will impact the classrooms of the entire country of America. The passage and signing of HB 777 last fall in California mandates the teaching of homosexuality, bisexuality and trans-sexuality to children in all government schools from Kindergarten to 12th grade (please don’t try to imagine the workshops!). Read all about how the militant sodomites have taken over the CA government and its schools: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=55808
Now here’s where it hits home in NC and around the country. The textbook publishers do not publish 50 sets of books. They go to their largest customers, CA and TX, and ask what they want in or left out of the books and that’s what the children in the government schools around the rest of the country, including NC, get to use in our classrooms! The sodomite propaganda, pedophile facilitating books are on their way to your children and my children’s schools now! God’s Word, the Bible says in Leviticus 18:22 that a “man shall not lie with another man as a man lies with a woman for it is a detestable sin” to God! Will you sit by and watch America be taken over by sodomites, while the Libertarians are complicit in their failure to action? Or will you stand for truth in the culture war for America to protect your children now?***
Irish stateman Edmund Burke stated “All that is necessary for evil to prevail, is for good men to do nothing.” The Reverend Martin Luther King. Jr. in a letter from an Alabama jail wrote “Morality can not be legislated, but behavior can be regulated. Judicial decrees may not change men’s hearts, but it can restrain the heartless.” God said “Thou shall not commit adultery.” Our Judeo-Christian worldview demands us to stand for truth in the culture war in America.
Back in my Navy days when I served aboard the USS Enterprise (CVN 65) and USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) I swore an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic and I believe that the zealots in the libertarian movement are just the ones we need to defend against before there is no moral restraint to stop any tyrant from taking over our great Republic when God’s Devine hand of protection is removed for our national sin of licentiousness.

Chuck - As you know, I am personally quite conservative. My wife and I have been married for eleven years, have three children, and are Christians who seek to live by example and service to others. Furthermore, Christianity has been a lifelong journey as we seek and follow God’s plan for our lives.
I have been blessed to experience much on my journey, starting with my medical training in the late nineties. One of my favorite books is “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made”, by Phillip Yancey and Paul Brand, a Christian physician. This book looks at the miraculous creation that is humanity, and also acknowledges the challenges of working in medicine, which is literally God’s “complaint department”.
As a physician, I saw and treated the ravages caused by poor lifestyle choices. The devastation caused by smoking and alcohol abuse cannot be overstated, nor the devastation caused by abusing one’s body through excess refined carbohydrates and insufficient exercise leading to obesity, insulin resistance, diabetes, and a slow, painful decline as one’s body can no longer circulate life-giving nutrients to critical organs. Infections, amputations, blindness, heart attacks… in many cases caused by diet and lifestyle choices.
For many people, adult onset diabetes, lung cancer, and liver failure due to alcohol abuse are consequences of abusing our bodies and not honoring them as God’s magnificent creation. But what about the child with leukemia? How about the 41 year old father of three with a newly-diagnosed glioblastoma (brain cancer) with one year to live?
Medicine really gave me a sense of perspective. Should I not treat patients whose behavior clearly brought on their illness? Of course not. That’s not how God calls us to serve. How about acknowledging Romans 3:23-24, “There is no difference, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came through Christ Jesus.”
I am also quite cognizant of Matthew 7:5: “You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” I offer my candidacy humbly, with the knowledge that I am an imperfect person who seeks God’s guidance in trying to do His will. I believe I am called to live my faith through example, and remember Jesus’ words in Matthew 9:11-13:
“When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and ’sinners’?” On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
So how do I threaten Christian conservatives? As you know from the state fair, I am strongly pro-life, and view protection of life as the primary role of government. Outside of abortion, I am strongly “pro-choice” — especially with regards to education. What better way to prevent government from sanctioning destructive lifestyles then breaking the government’s monopoly on education?
I do not encourage or embrace destructive lifestyle choices, but I question how government can “punish” them. Should we punish those who eat too much, and exercise to little? Or should we use our limited prison capacity to permanently incarcerate violent criminals who are a threat to others?
With regard to the federal government’s involvement in social issues, I think the Constitution is a great start to defining how our government in Washington should behave. You’re right, I do not support the *federal* government “defining” marriage in any sense. Why should Washington care? That’s clearly something that can, and should, be left to the states. Likewise for the federal “war on drugs”. The states should retain the right to determine how drug use is controlled. At least when we enacted prohibition, we had the intellectual honesty to amend the Constitution.
When I answer questions about supporting social legislation, please understand that I’m *not* running for office in Raleigh, but in Washington. I think Washington needs to respect the rule of law, and remember the 10th Amendment. These are good discussions to be having at the state and local level, but we need to return the focus in Washington to things it *should* be doing: secure borders, eliminating the income tax, inflation and rising grocery bills, and national security. (No, not steroids in baseball either.)
Finally, your perspective on my foreign policy beliefs are incorrect. I am not at all isolationist, but simply believe we must be more judicious in our use of deadly force and seek to follow the Augustinian principle of Just War. As a nation, we cannot unilaterally force our will on the rest of the world indefinitely. Right now, we police the world at China’s pleasure with our massive debt and current account deficit. Instead, we must get back into the business of inspiring multinational cooperation to deal with criminals and terrorists that threaten civilized society.
Please visit http://www.lawsonforcongress.com com to learn more about our campaign to restore a Constitutional federal government. A Constitutional federal government is not a threat to Christian conservatives. It will protect life, restore free speech, provide free choice and local control in education, secure our borders, rebuild a strong military defense, encourage peace and understanding through diplomatic and economic engagement, and enable Christians to lead by example.

Since you know me, it is obvious that I am a strong supporter of BJ’s candidacy for congress. For all your criticism I have to wonder if you would rather have Price for for another 2 or 22 years than a conservative that is pro-life and believes in low taxes and limited government. It is obvious that he has what it takes to beat Price in this very gerrymandered district. He has the financing, the organization, the ground support, the technological background, the ability to garner votes from independents and Democrats - and win.
Because without all those things, it is just going to be another loss with 35% of the vote to Price’s 65%.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:00 am
It’s clear to me that Chuck Campbell has a very different view of the role of the federal government than BJ Lawson does. Campbell wants those in Washington deciding right from wrong. Campbell clearly doesn’t care about the 10th Amendment. BJ Lawson actually wants the federal government to have less authority. I’m with Lawson.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:28 am
Hi Chuck,
This is my first post on your site, and in the interest of full disclosure, I should share that I am a personal friend of BJ Lawson. Having said that, he and his campaign did not ask me to write this post.
I am a deeply committed evangelical Christian - my family and I adhere to the authority of scripture, we believe in the necessity of absolute right and wrong, and in the need for moral restraint in the world. We also believe that there are grave cultural threats and home and abroad that threaten our children’s future and threaten the moral leadership and credibility of the United States in the world. In addition, I am a life-long Republican born in North Carolina and not a libertarian.
Amen to your Edmund Burke quote that “All that is necessary for evil to prevail, is for good men to do nothing”. This is why the individual actions of Christians and the corporate actions of the church are so crucial, not the outsourcing of this job to the federal and state government. Christian communities historically have been most effective at being “salt and light” in the world during times of greatest depravity and adversity. The experience of the early church and the explosion of the gospel in China under communism are both wonderful examples of this dynamic.
Conversely, as Christians, some of our greatest failures have occured when we abandon our individual responsibilities and are lulled into thinking that a governmental or political faction will do the heavy lifting for us. Our beliefs are vulnerable to being co-opted by politicians that will pay lip service to our concerns, and this can greatly dilute our effectiveness. To quote Keith Green, this is a recipe for falling “asleep in the light”. It is up to us to be the hands and feet that create the impact we hope to see.
I know BJ and his family - he loves the Lord Jesus Christ and I have the utmost respect for his authenticity and his faith. He is a pragmatic and thoughful believer who wants to see change in the world, not in any way, shape or form an idealogue that would undermine our values or our future.
I simply wanted to share this as a gentle and respectful reminder that there are a number of evangelicals - Christian conservatives - that feel this way and support BJ - take the time to get to know him a bit more and you’ll understand why he has this groundswell of support.
Thanks for hosting your blog and giving me the chance to comment.
March 20th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
Hey Chuck,
Libertarians still have their own party… Ron Paul was only a member of it temporarily and, as far as I know, BJ has never been a member of it. I have purposely chosen not to be a member of it, though I do think they should have access to the ballot without having to gather 100,000 signatures. Skip Stam gave a speech at the Wake County GOP Convention about the Magna Carta and pointed out that no elected official should be above the rule of law. So, why are the rules different for the Dems and Republicans? Because they make laws to keep themselves in power, something Skip Stam and others railed against at the convention.
I’m not exactly sure why you don’t see how we are really trying to stick to the party platform that explicitly says in the preamble: “We honor the original meaning of our Constitutions and the inalienable rights of the American people as recognized in the Bill of Rights and the North Carolina Declaration of Rights.”. Perhaps you should read the party platform (http://www.ncgop.org/gopinformation/platform.asp) and figure out exactly what points you and BJ disagree on and whether you are actually a Republican… Your post seems to call for government to continue to have its hands in more and more, with the exception that you use God’s name.
I am not a Libertarian, and I support BJ Lawson for Congress.
I am a bible-believing, born-again, evangelical Christian, who believes that “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. “. Every good work includes speaking out for and voting for good candidates that will govern God’s creation well… and I support BJ Lawson for Congress.
By the way, good works do not include calling people names that they are not or making false associations. Are their Libertarians who support BJ Lawson? Sure. There were Democrats who supported Ronald Reagan… does that make Reagan a Democrat?
Augustus Cho who is campaigning on an “I am not a Ron Paul candidate” platform needs to think a little bit harder of what is best for our posterity. The ever increasing size and the even more increasing spending of our children’s future income is staring you right in the face. People like this talk about smaller government but when you look at what they are willing to cut, the list is almost nil (except perhaps a little pork and funding of Planned Parenthood). WHen you look at what they want to increase, it is the influence and power of federal government… but don’t worry it will be under “Republican control” rather than “Democratic control”. For some reason, that doesn’t make me feel that much better. When someone starts really cutting the size and influence of federal government (and REALLY securing our borders) instead of just giving it lip service, they will be a Republican worth voting for.
BJ Lawson is that man.
From what I heard of Augustus Cho, I know what he is not (a Ron Paul candidate), and he seems to think that you can’t support our military and speak out against bad foreign policy. That’s ridiculous. I have incredible respect for anyone willing to volunteer for the military, and I think that sending them to Iraq is a bad idea. And I am STILL a Republican.
You need to think a bit harder about who the enemy is.
March 20th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
BJ, would you then be in favor of a Constitutional Amendment to eliminate so-called “anchor babies” as Ron Paul has advocated?
I believe that you are sincere in your Christian faith, besides that’s not for me to judge, but your politics are a different matter.
Placing a higher value on a document, one that I pledged to defend with my life, than on protecting our children from the onslaught of the militant homosexuals who want to deconstruct the the family so that they can engage in unbridled sodomy and then indoctrinate and recruit our children in the government schools, like they already are in CA and MD.
These schools which the poor and people like myself are trapped into sending our children to attend.
The Marriage Amendment is the benchmark for a social conservative! Are you with us or against us?

Father and Husband second,
American third,
Pro-Life Conservative fourth and
Finally a proud Republican…

March 20th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
Hey Chuck,
You say you are “trapped into sending your children to attend” government schools. I don’t know a lot about your background, so I’m not sure why you feel trapped. I think BJ and others would like to see changes in education, but one of those changes would be to get rid of some of the bureaucracy and influence of the government run schools. NOTE: BJ wants to get rid of the Federal Department of Education and get rid of the income tax. One of the things you could do with the money you get to keep for yourself is send your child to a public school or invest in their education at home.
I think that greatly reducing the size and influence of our federal government (and reducing the size of our state government) would make less people feel trapped and make the other options (that are already out there) more easily attainable. NOTE: The founding fathers had no intention of the education of our children being the job of the federal government… it wasn’t until the late 1800s that compulsory school education laws started being the norm… and then children then had to be in school 60 days/year for 4 hours/day. Since that time our literacy rate has gone way down.
I agree that these things should not be taught in our public schools and would love to see them changed. One way is to get schools more local control and make education a bit more competitive so people feel more free to vote with their feet. If you are a “Christian first, Father and Husband second, American third…” why do you give so much of your children’s time to the federal government? Vote with your feet. I don’t understand why you think BJ or Ron Paul who believe in less federal government interference and more education options are a threat to Christian Conservatives. The public education establishment is a much bigger threat.
Also don’t confuse the approach to “defending marriage” with the concept of defending marriage. BJ just thinks the 10th amendment suggests states should be the ones deciding this, not the federal government. I agree. Are you for us, or for bigger federal government? (By the way, I’m a happily married man for almost 23 years and a huge promoter of healthy Christ-centered families).
March 20th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
Mr. Campbell, as a born again evangelical, I understand your concerns regarding the implications of the limited government platform (Jeffersonian republicanism/ Old Right conservatism) that candidates such as BJ Lawson and Ron Paul advocate. As such, I would like to share with you an excerpt from a letter I created for the Ron Paul presidential candidacy that actually addresses the key issues you raised against this type of conservative platform from a Bible-based standpoint. I’d love to see your take. Below is the piece:
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I’m Pastor Ted Hurd, veteran and minister for over 30 years. As a born again Christian, I am sick and tired of big government Republicans that continue to pander to evangelicals with empty promises and feel good fluff that tickles the ears. Like millions of other evangelicals, I was ready to vote “None of the above” in 2008’s primary. But then I discovered Dr. Ron Paul. This straight talking Texas congressman has cured my apathy. Let me share seven reasons why I believe Ron Paul is the best choice for born again Christians in 2008.
* A Real Solution to Abortion The Others Don’t Mention - Playing never ending chess games with court nominees is not enough. Ron Paul wants to ban federal courts from deciding law on issues such as abortion, marriage, school prayer, and religious displays. Friends, federal judicial tyranny would be finished.
* Real Peace in Israel - Many Christians believe God is angry over America’s involvement with so-called Mid East “peace plans” that divide Israel’s land amongst its enemies. Ron Paul would end America’s involvement with this troubling division of the Holy Land.
* No Tower of Babel Building - As Christians, we should vehemently oppose precursors to one world government such as the United Nations. Ron Paul wants to get America out of the UN and other such global organizations.
* Give Marriage Back to The Church - Marriage is an institution designed by God that transcends man’s governments. Ron Paul would fight to bring marriage back to its religious roots.
* Throw Out The Money Changers Again - Remember when Christ threw out the money changers for abusing God’s house and destroying His people’s money? Today, the privately owned Federal Reserve bank continues to print billions of new dollars out of thin air. This selfish organization charges the American people astronomical interest as it debases our dollar down to its current value of around 4 cents. Ron Paul wants to confront the Federal Reserve money changers and return our country to sound money.
* Stop Building Chinese-Style Government Churches - Today, our federal government continues to expand government funding of church ministries. These programs slowly cede church sovereignty into the hands of the federal government. The eventual result is state-manipulated churches similar to Communist China. Ron Paul would stop this underhanded assault against the Church’s freedom by ending such programs.
* Restore Education of Children to Local Parents - For too long the humanist-influenced Dept. of Education has had too much control over our children’s education. Ron Paul would abolish the federal Dept. of Education and reward parents with tax credits if they choose home or private schooling.
Brothers and sisters, these are the issues firing up thousands of evangelicals to vote for Ron Paul at their Republican primary on January 19th. Unfortunately, I have found that absolutely no other major Republican presidential candidate has taken a stand with Ron Paul on any of these causes. That’s right: None of them. Still, you might be wondering why you haven’t heard much about some of these vital issues so relevant to conservative Christians. It’s simple. The secular media wants nothing to do with covering such moral issues. It doesn’t fit their agenda. And their Republican media darlings seem all too compliant. They just don’t get it. But that’s okay. As Christians, we’ve got to be proactive, not reactive. With Ron Paul, we’ve finally got a true conservative we can be proud to support.
I think the same can be said for Mr. Lawson.
March 21st, 2008 at 10:25 am
Mr. Campbell, I understand your positions and concerns because I’ve believed as you do before. I am a conservative evangelical Christian, combat veteran and I support both Ron Paul and B.J. Lawson. I’ll deal with just two issues here as most who have replied to this post have eloquently pointed out where you are misinformed already.
First, as a Christian I have watched and participated in the “right to life” movement for years basically stand on a sidewalk once a year holding a sign for an hour and hoping for a set of Judges to “overturn” Roe v. Wade. That has gotten us nothing but more abortion. Frankly, Ron Paul’s legislation to remove it from the federal courts where the problem began (legally anyhow) is the only solution that any candidate or politician has currently out there to do something now and save lives.
Christians are controlled by the theory that one day “their prince will come” and end abortion either by some sort of Presidential edict, judges’ new ruling or constitutional amendment. Such an edict is outside a president’s authority, judges have proven unwilling (republican appointees have dominated the courts) and a constitutional amendment is long and rare and would require ratification by the states, the same states that many Christians fear are incapable of defending the unborn, if given the chance again.
Ron Paul’s and Lawson’s stance on abortion is the only real answer within our system of government.
Secondly, as a combat veteran, I am one hundred percent for immediate withdraw from all foreign countries as soon as we get out of Iraq and Afghanistan, which should be done as quickly and safely as possible. American leaders have made it clear that we are no longer interested in finding Bin Laden, the primary reason we went to war. But more importantly, we are fighting wars that are completely unconstitutional having not actually declared war. To a Christian, this violates Romans 13, failing to submit to our authority, the Constitution.
If we brought our military home from the hundred plus countries around the world, we would have ample ability to defend our borders from all “threats foreign”. But I swore an oath upon enlisting that focused on defending the constitution from threats “foreign and domestic” and that is not being taken seriously by the leaders who have taken the same oath.
The Republican party is in trouble because it has become a liberal twin to the Democrat party. I for one only rejoined the Republican party because I saw hope in Ron Paul’s message of true conservatism once again returning to the party.

The Ron Paul, Libertarians, who are being apologists for BJ Lawson, are very verbose and seem to have lots of time to blog…but in the immortal words of that great American Revolutionary Navy sailor said: “I have not yet begun to fight.!”
They are deceptively smooth and eloquent, but BJ Lawson has still not responded to my question about whether he favors a Constitutional Amendment to prevent the children born to illegal aliens in America, so-called “anchor babies”, from having US citizenship.
A Constitutional birthright to all Americans!
BJ do you favor giving citizen ship to the children of illegals or would you Amend the sacred Constitution to protect America from the invasion of illegals? Can’t have it both ways, I’m going to go on the radio with this campaign next week! Hope you have a happy Easter weekend, because next week I’m turning up the heat on your duplicity.

John Paul Jones was the sailor’s name.

I don’t understand I guess. BJ and others have answered your concerns regarding abortion and marriage definition. And now your worried about his Immigration Platform?
First, real quick, here’s my view.
Abortion is Murder.
Murder is not something the federal government is allowed to prosecute. The only police powers the Fed has according to article 1 section 8 is prosecuting treason, piracy, and counterfitting. Murder has always been something the several States have figured out the best way to deal with.
Similarly, Marriage, being a religious ceremony, should stay as far away from being politicized as possible. Government getting involved with Religion just corrupts the church.
So now you’re worried about Anchor Babies? I don’t know B J’s position on Anchor babies, but I can explain Paul’s.
The main issue is the massive welfare state. Christians and conservatives used to oppose the welfare system. Surely just because somebody has a baby here shouldn’t make them eligible for all the free welfare programs. That’s all this is about.
And no, Paul doesn’t support rounding up all the illegal immigrants. He opposed the National ID card suggestions for keeping tabs on illegal immigrants and is opposed to the massive federal police state that would be necessary to accomplish that goal. However, if an illegal is caught in a crime, or tries to apply for food stamps, or free federal housing, or whatever, he’s not opposed to deporting the individual that’s causing the crime, or illegally using our welfare system. His main argument is that we shouldn’t be rewarding them to do illegal things. The massive welfare state is one of the things that’s bankrupting this country and devaluing the dollar. Certainly, if we must have it, it should only be available to people who are here legally.
Of course, we wouldn’t “need” a vast welfare state, if government spending was cut down to the point where you could abolish the income tax, and the Federal Reserve wasn’t making the poor poorer by destroying our dollar, because then everybody would be wealthier and it would be easier for people to make a living. Plus churches would have more donations because the wealthy among us would have more charitable funds to donate.
You see the free market is the best thing for the poor among us — legal and illegal alike.
I just find it strange that Anchor Babies seems to be your only problem with Lawson, when many people who support Ron Paul (myself included) don’t agree with Paul on all his Immigration reform issues. In fact, that’s one reason many Libertarians DIDN’T get behind Paul. The Libertarian Party Platform calls for completely open boarders. Many Libertarians who supported Paul supported him IN SPITE of Paul’s Immigration platform, not because of it.
So, which is it? Are you upset with Lawson because he’s too libertarian? Or are you against him because his Immigration Policy might be Paulian and therefore not Libertarian enough?
Confused,
Tracy

Chuck,
As far as the birthright citizenship goes, that can be found in the 14th Amendment, which was not part of the original Constitution. In other words, the birthright citizenship was the result of an AMENDMENT to the Constitution. It was not part of the original intent. By asking him if he’d amend the Constitution to end the birthright citizenship you’re actually asking him if he’d amend an AMENDMENT to the Constitution. Or, to put it another way, since such an amendment would remove something that was not part of the original Constitution you’re asking him if he’d RESTORE the Constitution more to its original (or to use your word “sacred”) intent.
Surely you can see the flaws in the logic you’re using and as such your accusations of “duplicity” about BJ’s stance on the Constitution are disingenuous. In fact, I’d say you’re the one being, to use your own words, “deceptive,” but I don’t think this is intentional — or at least I hope not being you’re a man of faith. I just think you haven’t read or studied the Constitution enough to understand it. If you had, you’d understand where the birthright citizenship is found in the Constitution and that it was actually added later, as an amendment, and it not part of the original document.
I urge you to study the Constitution more and be more cautious next time in making accusations.
Besides all that, there are many Constitutional scholars who believe that the 14th Amendment is misinterpreted in regards to the birthright citizenship. So, if they are right, and I personally believe they are, the Constitution wouldn’t even have to be amended in order to end the “anchor baby” problem. The 14th Amendment would simply have to be followed as intended.
Happy Easter!

Chuck,
Was this post purposefully a propaganda piece, or are you really stupid enough to believe this nonsense? You are totally misunderstanding the Ron Paul movement, just like you are misunderstanding the message of Jesus. Now theres some food for thought for you to chew on.. haha

RE BJ Lawson: Mr. Campbell’s take is that all Libertarians are identical. WRONG! That the 10th Amendment is not relevant. WRONG!! That BJ Lawson is a social pariah. REALLY WRONG!!!!!
I am a registered Republican for over 40 years. And not very proud of it. We must return to a strict original intent understanding of the US Constitution. Labels mean nothing. We were warned by I think it was G. Washington - Beware factions.
I support BJ Lawson.

Dear Mr Campbell,
As for you and this flap with Lawson, just look at this fellow Cho who is running against BJ, read his biography on his webpage.
• He has never had a job. He says he was a minister, but never mentions a church. His ‘book’ are self-published drivel. He says he worked for DOD in Korea and flashes and ID that is probably expired. I was assigned in Korea in early 80’s. We hired locals to work the PX, bowling alley and cut grass. He ain’t no spook.• He says he worked in retail in NY and CA, but no employer, not title, no comment?
• Run the tax record on his house at 106 Astor Place in Chapel Hill. It is owned by a ‘mystery woman’ Mona A. Lee. Who is this? Is it his sister, AKA Mona Asbury Park?
• His step father passed having a sold an office building at 14 Hargett street, having passed, away leaving a pretty hefty inheritance to his children. How else has Cho managed to live all these years with no income?
• Did this mystery woman change her name from Park to Lee as Sung Uk Park changed his name to Sung Uk Cho to Augustus Cho?
• Odd that there is no picture of his wife and kids? He says that she is a lawyer in Korea supporting him? Why is she not at his side here? I don’t know any starving lawyers in Raleigh.
• He has two kids in public school, Chapel Hill High and middle school. Are they really his kids? Why are they hidden from his web site?
Now look at BJ. He was the guy in class that was making A+ when you, Chuck, and I were on our knees to a Merciful God for B-, and you know what I’m talking about. He is a model for American achievement, got into and through medical school, not at Tijuana University either. He formed his own company and made a fortune providing software that worked. I would have hung up my spurs and let the rest of you retards surrender to Red China and the Clintons. Here BJ is facing the slings and arrows and all you can do is gripe and grouse.
• This fellow has worked all his life and been successful
• Owns his own home
• He doesn’t hide his family
• He has the same name he was born with
This is the same whining that got Bill Clinton elected. Cho is a fraud and huckster. BJ is on the level.
I joined the NC Libertarian Party some years ago because I thought they were strict Constitutionalists, ie, Article one section ten, no paper money, no troops across the border without an Declaration of War, ensure the common defense and so on.
I dumped them when I got to know them in this state. They, like the Anglican Church in this country, is nothing more than a dating service for homosexuals. The core of their cause is lost because they, like a great many so-called Christians, have interpreted the Constitution to read as they wish. They promote a repeal of the sodomy laws and open US borders. Nuttier that squirrel poop!
That my beloved United States of America should lower her guard and abandon all that my ancestors suffered and die for are fighting words at the least.
Name withheld for professional reasons.

Grant Hoffman offers us an oxymoron in a Christian wrapper. While protesting too much my disagreement over the licentious libertarian views of his candidate, BJ Lawson, he questions whether Christians should be involved in politics. I would question whether nominal Christians who can not even detect the self-contradictory logic of their vehemently injecting their own opinions into politics, or at least the ones pertaining to the 10th Amendment and the spending of federal money, while attempting to justify non-involvement by other Christians with whom he would politically disagree!
If this were not so sad, it would indeed be laughable.
BTW, Grant, I am taking my personal responsibility for Jesus said “All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. .. Go and teach them to obey all that I have taught you.” It’s in Luke. Open your Bible before you cast stones at me.
Here’s another obscure passage from the man who wrote two-third of the New Testament “Know you not that you are to judge angels and things if Heaven, how much more the things of this world.” You’re beginning to sound like Obama’s former pastor Jeremiah Wright when you worship at the alter of the 10 Amendment (NOT Commandment) and allow that object to be the device by which the pedophiles prey upon your very own children in the government schools. But then BJ will abolish the Dept. of Educ. …and then we’ll all wake up.
My name is Chuck Campbell and I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ! You nominal Christians, or are you Liberals pretending to be Christians are going to have a lot of explaining to do on the day of Judgment at the Great White Thrown.

Brother Ken Auer,
How’s life in Holly Springs? Maybe we’ll meet up at Java Divine one afternoon and I can disciple you? You should pray that the Holy Spirit will open your eyes to your accessory to the moral decay of our great Republic.
I have been a Republican since 1980 and I have helped elect many pro-family conservatives and defeat a few liberals. Back in the mid-nineties I helped write the party platform and I have read the Constitution where it delineated the qualifications for President, Senator and Representative by stating that they should be a “Citizen”. It was another of those “self-evident” truths to them that if you were born here you are an American.
Now you speak of limited government, at least limiting your white-middle-class tax burden, as if Jesus cared how big your government gets. Here’s what he said “Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s and unto God what is God’s”.
Now I’m about as democrat as Jessee Helms. Just as feisty too.
Think hard about this: You are an accessory to moral anarchy, licentiousness, and the moral decay of our society if you vote for someone who believes that personal liberty in morality is more important than God’s law. BTW, Jesus said “I did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it. Not the least stroke of the law will pass away. Woe unto those who call good what God calls evil.” Leviticus 18:22 “Man shall not lie with a man as you lie with a woman, for it is a detestable sin.” There’s nothing in there about if you have a Constitution or not.
My name is Chuck Campbell and I am defending my children from the onslaught of the pedophiles while you libertarians are rolling out the red carpet and looking the other way. It’s called complicity by acquiescence.

“Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s and unto God what is God’s”
Doesn’t that beg the question, “What is Caesars?”
This country was founded on the right to own property. John Locke, one of our founding fathers and devoted follower of Jesus is who that’s mostly atributed to.
So if the fruits of our labor are ours, and our property is ours, then that money the government forcebly confiscates from us every year, isn’t Caesars. It’s ours, and the government is stealing it.
The fact is this country was founded — in large part — on a tax rebellion.
In that spirit, I would posit that none of the fruits of our labor legitimatly “belong” to Ceasar.
“Render on to Ceasar was is Ceasar’s,” OK fine. But if Ceasar doesn’t have a right to anything, then rendering to Ceasar what is Ceasars, is still rendering him nothing.
This isn’t just word-play and trickery. Remember that this was something Jesus said precisely because the Pharasies and Sajusies were trying to trick Jesus. As a Christian and Bible Scholar you already know that. The religious elietes of JEsus day weren’t even suppost to have graven images, and JEsus called them out on that, when they produced the coins.
This Pediphile red herring is ridiculous. It’s not even an overstatement; it’s simply blatently slanderous to the libertarian viewpoint. Libertarians believe that it’s wrong to innitiate agression. Like John Lock, we believe government exists to protect our lives, liberty, and property. Pediphiling, like Rape, is agression against a persons life, liberty, and body (Which definitely does not belong to the rapest). Hence, Government does have a place to step in and prosecute it, just like it has a place to step in and prosecute Abortion and Murder.
And guess what? The State of New Jersey has laws against Pedephiling. No one here is advocating repeal of those laws.
I’m begining to wonder if you’re being honest and arguing in good faith. As a Christian I sincerly hope you are and simply don’t understand the libertarian philosophy of limited government.
BTW Libertarianism is only a political philosphy. It’s only about those few things that actually agress against the individual.
If you don’t like a particular vice or self destructive activity (and by that I mean something that doesn’t victumize another person) that someone is participating in, it’s our calling as Christians to sit down and minister to these people — like Jesus did. Locking sinners up in prison, does nothing to change their hearts.
Nobody here is calling evil good and good evil. What we’re questioning is whether government waging war on every little vice makes the problem worse or not. What we’re questioning is: Should the State be in charge of dictating morality or is that the Church’s job. What we’re questioning is, does locking people up in Prison for victumless crimes solve the underlying problem of sin, or does church and charity and Christian ministry solve that problem better.
It’s our calling as Christians to minister to the sinners (yes, including homosexuals) and teach them the error of their ways, and why Jesus can help pull them out of there self destructive routiens. So, by all means, volenter with project Exedous, and some of these other Christian 10-step programs that help teach homosexuals to be free of their sexual addictions, and preach the Gospel about how they can be made whole through the Blood of Jesus. Many of us are involved in simular volentary outreach programs to help others.
Regardless, this question is Mute. Because we’re all Constitutionalists — which means the Fed doesn’t have jurisdiction on how the states handle these issues. We’re not advocating that States can’t have laws like you suggest. We’re merely asking if the Federal government should.
You make me wonder. If the UN some-how started advocating all the social conservative laws you advocate would you be willing to give up US Soveranty to endorse world government? No, I don’t think so. So lets not give up North Carolina soveranty to the Fed either. As soon as you do that, the next time the winds blow in Washington, laws will change, and NC will be worse off then when you started.
Let North Carolina make these decisions, and keep the Fed out of it.

Listen to my podcasts on my website at http://www.chuckcampbellshow.com
you’d better hurry before the enabler of gays, Mavtek sues me and takes my rental house and then I won’t have a bed to lay my head in, just like Jesus. But I’ll rejoice because I’ll still have a radio show, TV show, website, blog, podcasting and the God given ability to speak boldly
“…Speak out when you have faith that God is speaking through you.” Romans 12:6b NLT (that’s by God through Paul, but not Ron Paul!) My name is Chuck Campbell and I reside in the Raleigh, North Carolina area…that’s Wake County if you need to send your lawyers to attack me…I have lawyers too! They’re at the ACLJ, ADF, Gibbs Law Firm, Christian Law Association, Rutherford Institute, Whitehead, et. al, and a few select local Republican attorneys who speak Latin, pro-bono. Mavtek, I’m still not losing any sleep…”Rejoice when men say all manner of evil things about you for my namesake….They will drag you into court where you will testify about me.” Jesus Christ, the only Lord I fear.

“Maybe we’ll meet up at Java Divine one afternoon and I can disciple you? You should pray that the Holy Spirit will open your eyes to your accessory to the moral decay of our great Republic.”
I’d be happy to meet with you at Java Divine or some other fine establishment in Holly Springs. I’ve been accused of a lot of things before, but this is a new one. I’ll stay open to the Holy Spirit’s conviction of any unclean way in me. I hope you will do the same. Contact me privately and let’s set up a time.

A word on Libertarians and Ron Paul. If you were going to pick a party that Ron Paul would fit better in it would be the Constitution Party. Ron Paul is a paleo-conservative. He believes in the founding principles of our nation. In 88 he did run as the presidential candidate for the Libertarian Party. While the Libertarians are, as a whole, very morally liberal in their politics they are strong when it comes to real money. This is Ron Paul’s forte. He understands the inflationary policies of the Fed and he knows that a ‘managed’ economy as proposed by Keynes is simply theft through inflationary policies that pay for empires. Dr. Paul is a true conservative when it comes to right to life. He understands that Art III Sect II of the Constitution gives the Congress the authority to strip the Suprememe Court of any ‘authority’ over abortion cases. This is simpler than an amendment. Dr. Paul is not going to be looked at positively by the rank and file Republicans because he believes ALL socialism should be ended. Printing fiat money is non-biblical. The Security and Prosperity Partnership that would do away with our nothern and southern borders, as supported by Bush, is something that he sees as treason. Ron Paul scares conservatives and I’ll admit, even me, because he lays it down as it is. The Republicans are just as intent, at the top level, to do away with our borders and shower socialism on us. They are slower and slyer than the Democrats. We should follow the lead of the Holy Spirit and see that everyone we know has the chance to call upon Jesus as Lord. Besides that, let’s be involved in the political arena but we need to stop accepting one evil jerk over one that appears to be more evil.
